Concerning Fear

Had a conversation with a friend a few nights ago about animals and creatures that scare the shit out of us, and after chatting for a while I realised that there aren't many animals that I'm afraid off ( I'm not gonna jump in a lion cage or do anything stupid) However, this is weird, as I'm terrified of praying mantises.. I've got no problems slaying cockroaches and other six legged beasts, and I'm not afraid of petting a crocodile and whatnot- but those praying mantis's.. i shudder ( kinda like shenzi in Lion King when Menzi say 'Mufasa'.woow.

lol I loved that bit from the Lion King...
I'm not afraid of insects and creepy crawlies, I just feel this flesh-rippling disgustedness when i see one...(is disgustedness a word?) these include cockroaches and flies and anything flying with a thorax and feelers...
Ok dont laugh, but I'm afraid of the wind. nothing nortifies me more than gale force wind. I especially hate that gap between the chemistry blocks on the way to the library on campus...you usually have to hold on to your hair when you walk in that place. I suppose its a childhood scar, having witnessed a tree falling on my father's car when i was 4. on really windy days i am clinging on to nearby friends, hugging poles, listening to walls to see if they're silently cracking inside, praying continuously, asking God for forgiveness for all the bad things humans do...I'm literally on the verge of crying in windy situations. Ok, so I'm weird. I also spent most of my first semester at campus reading a book called "Why buildings fall down." I thought knowledge was power, but in my case, it has made me paranoid. Now even loud music gets me thinking about resonance and vibration...
OK, MJ, praying mantises are scary bt they're not as scary as cockroaches and maggots. Watch some Karate Kid, you'll get over it...

interesting fact - i watchd lion king agin last night - a post is forthcoming as its in my top three of all time - anyway - one of the hyena's is voiced by cheech marin (of dheech and chong fame)- this guy is a legend

joe - what wind are you talking about - flatulence? i know what you mean though - the chemistry wind tunnel is murder on anyones hair do i come out of there looking like ace ventura

lol yes you do look a bit like Ace when the wind ruffles your hair :D And you walk like him, too, lol.
I wasn't talking of farts! I mean, those are scary too, granted, but I was talking about those air currents that are controlled by lunar activity...I live in an area notorious for its strong wind, which means I'm often standing in door frames in case the building crashes...

MJ you are BRAVE.. i would never, ever attempt holding a snake.. i am terrefied of anything that walks, but is not human (though some humans are jsut as scary) and i simply hate ants, i see them, and gets the itches..
as for Lion King, i have watched it almost a thousand times thanks to my nephew, and its still entertaining.

i dont walk like him - but i do have an affinity to certain animals - sexy women :)jo - you live in area that is notorious for Drug dealing Nigerians as well- then again - i live at the bottom of a reservoir so in times of war- i'm fucked as thats where they will bomb first - after isipingo- oh lord please stop robert mugabe from invading our beautiful country

K-Man and Ruby- its only praying mantis's hey boet- other insects i can deal with

BB- its a python- hence no venom - just a good squeeze, but since it was our first date, we kept things light - only first base- no heavy pettin or squeezes:p

oohh oohh *zesty jumps up and down* I LOVE ANIMALS! Think im a bit of an animal lover- even snakes! Theyre so cool dont you think? I held a snake a few years back when I took some kids at a playscheme to the zoo- they looked at me in awe and thought i was a bloody nutcase (actually so did the other workers), but it was a great experience. I then went on to hold a tarantula :-D hehehe.. Im not scared of spiders either.Ive always wanted a cub- have a thing for cats in paticular- big cats (lions and leopards- although like yourself i dont have any intention of jumping into the lions den)! :-P

Although, I am shit scared, totally petrified of BEES! I cannot stand them. I always skirm when i hear their buzzing and as soon as i see one thats it, im running aorund like a maniac! I have been known to pull my neck muscles on many occasions in my battle with the bees.

LOL- manti's seem harmless :-) Lion King is a fantastic movie and thats a very nice picture of you. You look pretty hot :-)

hey guys since al this seems to be about creepy crawlies what about PARKTOWN PRAWNS heheh now those are definitely freaky and I know you jhb pple can so relate to them:)

!Joe! said...

zahera i think you are so brave... touching a tarantula requires a certain amount of courage:) but its also a "mind over matter" thing; it's possible to get over the creepiness of certain creatures. I recently had a daddy-long-legs walk on my arm and i just stared at it, which was wonderfully liberating. When i was younger i would bring snails for the nature table, and i would handpick them myself, slime and all:) I also didnt think twice about picking up centipedes...where did that Joe go?!

LoL Hmm im gonne be the strange one and be different here lol i happen to ove insects and all animals i would gladly touch hold pet any of them lol. I don't exactly mind. At home i am the designated insect hunter as well as general animal wrangler. some of the pets i have had include two tortises and three chemeleons i aim to get a snake one day...

But what i honestly fear and loathe is Kurri KItchri cant stand that stuff oh and scary movies those i really jump for but other then that i am a brave (foolish) soul

mazozo said...

Lol Btw BI BI Aisha that is a non poisonous snake think its a rock python so it got no poison it strangles its victims to death lol although if you do get bitten you will most prob end up with at least 6 stitches

Zahera said...

Joe- I sometimes wonder whether i was braver than i would be now! Guess i was carefree and would have had a go at anything a few years back and holding a tarantula was one of them ;-)
It is a mind over matter thing i agree-you know in your mind that its harmless or that youre just being paranoid but actually carrying out the act can be traumatising for certain people. My sister is scared of most animals and creepy crawlies- for gods sake she hates cats!

Ahhh well guess we'll have to resort to the, "Systematic desensitization" technique. Although its unethical application on little Albert killed the poor kid! :-/ Those behaviorists have alot to answer for i tell ya!

JOE!!! We've had gale forc winds! :-O Trees have fallen (big ass sturdy trees- well they were once upon a time) and even the roof off my buiding has come off and flown into the carpark :-D lol- ok its not funny, its quite scary......*zesty, gone with the wind*
